Blog Tour: Redemption by Traci Hunter Abramson

Book Description:

Gage Stewart has spent five years trying to overcome his past. Once an abused and troubled teenager, he has worked tirelessly to move beyond the fateful day he was manipulated into holding a group of teenagers hostage. Now, with a new identity and a college degree in criminal psychology, he accepts an unlikely job teaching others what to do during mass shootings.

At the hotel where his class is held, Gage is immediately drawn to Skyler Prescott, the daughter of the wealthy hotel owner. Gage and Skyler quickly discover a shared desire for normalcy, and their easy friendship soon develops into something more. But after a night out ends in horror when a gunman opens fire in the crowded venue, they make an alarming discovery that threatens more than their relationship. The attack was little more than a publicity stunt to draw out the real target: presidential candidate Senator James Whitmore. Unwilling to become someone’s scapegoat, Gage must now work in tandem with the very men who ended his own life of crime before it began—the Saint Squad.

Rorie's Review:

Do you ever wish that certain characters in books were real? Let me introduce you to the Saint Squad (if you don't already know them.) Every time I read one of their stories, I wish that they were my neighbors. Since that isn't possible, reading their stories comes in a close second.

This story doesn't actually focus on any of the Saint Squad, but they do play a pretty major secondary role, especially Tristan and his wife, Riley. We even get to see Jay up in a tree again! :) This is a standalone book, but if you wanted to read Lockdown first, it wouldn't hurt. (Plus, it's a great story, so why wouldn't you?)

This story is all about, well, redemption, and I think the author does a great job of letting the reader feel all of the emotions that the characters are going through, especially Gage and Tristan. Learning how to move past mistakes, learning how to forgive, it's all in there, and I feel like it is presented in a very real way. The struggles aren't glossed over, and they're not solved in an easy, unbelievable way. I'm happy to add this book to my (ever-expanding) library.

Tarah's Review:

Each book of Abramson's just gets better and better in this Saint Squad Series (and I'm not going to lie, I like that it crosses into her Guardian Series as well). One of my favorite things in any series is getting backstory and then to fast forward to know what happens next. We get all of this in Redemption If you read Lockdown then you know exactly what happened from Tristen's perspective, and in Redemption  you get more of Gage's perspective from back then and now, and I love that. Whoever chose the title of the book nailed this one on the head!

Skyler is easily likable, leads a crazy life that I can't relate to in many ways (but it was fun to read more about the super rich and their lifestyle...poor people) and just a good person. It's great to see her and Gage together.

I actually really liked that the story focused mostly on Skyler and Gage. A few of the books in the series I was slightly disappointed that the story didn't focus more on the main characters, and I love that the Saint Squad and Guardians were here in the book, but not the major focus. This was another win for Abramson.
