Review:
Rachel Ward did a good job with her first published novel, Dear Jane. It's LDS fiction (aka Mormon fiction), so if you aren't familiar with the LDS culture it's possible you'll be a bit lost. However, I think it's worth checking out even if you might not understand missions and "Dear Jane" letters.
Dear Jane is an enjoyable and well-written story, and was surprisingly deep at times. I'll admit I was just expecting fluff/mind candy (which I like), so the inclusion of some deep family/emotional issues was unexpected but added a lot to the story.
Part of the story dragged a bit for me in the middle, but otherwise it was entertaining. I liked the balance between serious emotions and humor throughout the book, and I really appreciated the sweet ending.

Rachel Turner Ward graduated from Hillcrest High School after spending two years writing for the yearbook and the creative writing magazine. She then studied English at Brigham Young University—Idaho, graduating with an emphasis in Literary Studies.
