Book Review: At Love's Command by Karen Witemeyer

At Love's Command (Hanger's Horsemen, #1)
Book Description:

Ex-cavalry officer Matthew Hanger leads a band of mercenaries who defend the innocent, but when a rustler's bullet leaves one of them at death's door, they seek out help from Dr. Josephine Burkett. When Josephine's brother is abducted and she is caught in the crossfire, Matthew may have to sacrifice everything--even his team--to save her.

Book Review:

When I saw that Witemeyer was starting a new series, I knew I had to read the first one. I'm so glad I did. With great characters you will finish this book wanting to know more about each one. And yea! We get to! I wonder which character will be next. I will say I hate when names get thrown around from first name to last name. I tend to get confused for a bit trying to figure out who is who.

But let's talk about Dr. Joe for a minute. This is probably my favorite quote from the book

He raised his brow at her "You thinking to hold me at by by stackin' a bunch of highfalutin words between us? Won't work".....
"What are you talking about?" Her arms slowly lowered. "I'm not trying to engage you in . . . linguistical fisticuffs. That's just the way I speak."

Now try shouting "Stop your linguistical fisticuffs!" at your kids when they start fighting, and see what happens. So funny.  Anyway, the Dr. and her ten dollar words through the whole book made me love her more and more.

While the romance did happen very quickly in this book, for some reason it didn't bother me like it normally does. It actually seemed to fit in pretty well with the story and where the journey was taking us. Maybe because we got both POV's of the doctor and Matthew. Regardless, it worked.

I can't wait to read the next installment of Hanger's Horsemen.
