Running from the mercenaries who killed her parents.
Running from a scheming redhead intent on making her life miserable.
Running from painful memories that sabotage her dreams of happiness.
With two very tempting men competing for her attention, she hopes she'll finally have someone to run to, but can she trust either of them? When secrets from her past threaten her family, Cassidy decides to stop running and fight for her future.
Dead Running was an entertaining read that kept me guessing. I really enjoyed not knowing who to trust for most of the story. I also liked that even though parts of the story are creepy, Checketts kept things from being too serious with humorous situations.
Cassidy has a very quirky personality. One minute I was laughing at her hilarity, and the next I was cringing in embarrassment for her. She and her best friend, Tasha, are surprisingly boy crazy for their age, and Cassidy keeps things light with her amusing nicknames (ie. Dr. Tattoo and Nasty Muscle Man).
Running isn't my favorite exercise (by any stretch of the imagination), but Checkett's made the running and training aspects very interesting (she even made running a marathon seem like a possibility for an almost non-runner like myself . . . good thing it's not on my bucket list or I might be tempted).
Cami Checketts is an idealist who dreams of helping children around the world but can't keep up with the four in her own home. Cami lives in a beautiful valley in Northern Utah where she enjoys running, biking, and swimming during the two months of the year it isn't snowing. A portion of the proceeds from Cami's books will be donated to The Child & Family Support Center. For more information on this worthy cause, please go to www.cachecfsc.org.

Well, when I went to BYU I went jogging and someone moo'ed at me as they drove past. That was pretty dang embarrassing (not funny embarrassing) and really took down my self-esteem. I generally like jogging now and I looooove zumba. I like walking, too. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cool book. Thanks for the giveaway!
Can't think of an embarrassing story (really, I can't), but my favorite exercise is probably pilates.
ReplyDeleteI posted on facebook
ReplyDeleteOkay, Tara, I can so relate! I was jogging once in Logan and someone barked at me. I spent way too much pondering why they would do that to me!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful review! Cassidy was such a fun character to write, the sequel is even creepier but she cracks me up in the scariest of situations.
ReplyDeleteWarmest,
Cami
I'm Jolynn, and I now a follow here.
ReplyDeleteI like to exercise by playing with our Border Collies! They're high energy Dogs! We play Frisbee, throw tennis balls, kick ball & even play "Tag" with them. 1 of the dogs even gets on the treadmill with me!

That means you have to exercise. Okay, so I was running a grocery cart back into the store when the front wheel dropped down into a hole. Of course the cart stopped, but I didn't.
ReplyDeleteI have been drooling to read Dead Running, thank you oodles for such a fun & creative giveaway <3
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is awful but here you go:
I LOVE power walking (it's addicting lol). One day I decided to *power walk* home from work, about 1.5 miles. The better part of my work-home route took me down a sidewalk beside a VERY BUSY highway.
So, I'm all pumped up and feeling pretty buff (kinda), and I'm waving at some of the people I knew who drove by & honked. There sure were a lot of people that afternoon, and how friendly they all were ... honking & waving.
But, when I got home and went to shuck my clothes for a nice hot shower ... I discover that my black slacks had been unzipped the whole way home, with my snow white undies peeking out for the entire town to see! O>O

Well one time I was in a triathlon (and I was about 10 weeks pregnant at the time, it was a short one) and I was running along and had to go to the bathroom so bad so I just went ahead and went and it was very obvious to everyone around me what was happening. Oh well. Would love to win this book!
ReplyDeleteYou will be able to relate to parts of this book. ;) I had no idea this happened, but I'm learning that it's not uncommon. :)
DeleteOk, I also shared on facebook!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower :) And I shared on FB.
ReplyDeleteMy most embarrassing exercise story... Playing in a highschool basketball game..stealing the ball..racing down the court for the layup...tripping on my own huge feet...and losing the ball as it bounces out of bounds... to add to the embarrassment- being caught on film by the local journalist and the photo being featured in that week's sports page...luckily he captioned it as if I was diving for the ball- not tripping on my own feet. :)
I am loving these embarrassing exercise moments! I once tripped off the step in step class and fell flat on my face, the best part is I was the instructor!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago the young women in my church were playing kickball. None of the other leaders were playing, but I figured I was still young and I liked kickball, so I joined right in. I had a descent kick, but in my mad dash to first base I tripped over my own feet and went flying (complete with a somersault). I wasn't hurt . . . physically, but everyone crowded around to see if I was ok. It was totally embarrassing.
ReplyDeletei enjoy walking...a lot.
ReplyDeletethanks for the chance to read cami's wonderful novel.

I'm pretty sure I'm following your blog.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I've had so many embarrassing exercise moments, it's hard to pick just one...maybe the time I was out running and some scouts were putting up flags for a holiday. One of the scouts hocked a loogie and spit it right as I ran by, hitting me right in the shoulder with it. It still grosses me out just thinking about it.
Ew, ew, ew. So nasty!

ReplyDeleteI facebooked it! I'm not sure how to link to it, but since you're my sister, I'm sure you've seen it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love looking "cute" while running... No need to feel frumpy... Well, I was running in one of my running skirts with a new fuel belt... There was some construction here, I was running past the road crew... Up hill thinking... "I will sprint up this hill... Make it look easy". Well, after I got to the top and out of sight... I went to reach for one of my water bottle... And realized that these three bottles had scrunched up my skirt and I ran past them with my light pink undershorts only... I shall include that we live in a SMALL town... I skipped that route until the work was complete! But as I continue to run... I'm sure they get a laugh as they drive past! Lissa E.
