Book Description:

Excerpt:

Damon stepped forward, and his watch key and seal—visible reminders of his status and self-importance—clanked together. He bowed. “Miss Kent.”

“My lord,” I returned with a shallow curtsy. 

The corners of his mouth curled into a smile. “I see someone has managed to make a lady out of the wild girl I once knew,” Damon said, and before stepping back in line with his mother, he met my eye and added, “A pity.”

My eyebrows pulled together in surprise. 

“Do try not to scowl, Miss Kent. It will crease your lovely brow.”

“Damon Jennings,” Lady Winfield scolded. “You have been taught better manners.”

“My apologies, Mother. Teasing a beautiful woman is one of few things that has yet to be lectured out of me.” 

I gaped. Never in all my life had a man spoken so casually to me. Damon may have grown into a man, but he was not a gentleman.

Rorie's Review:

Do you ever finish a book and just sigh in contentment because it was awesome? And you're also kind of sad because you wish it didn't have to end? That was me after reading this story. I loved it from the very beginning to the very end. Not gonna lie, I liked Damon from the beginning as well, and Ollie? Well, he just seemed kind of...oily to me. A player, a flirt. The type of guy that just makes me want to always be on the opposite side of the room as he is. You know what else I loved? That Hannah had a happy family. That is definitely not a common theme in Regency romances. (Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the genuinely good person in spite of her parents story line as well.)

This story didn't play out entirely as I thought it would, which is good, because it kept me guessing. 

**Possible slight spoiler alert...**

It did have a bit of a love triangle, which I'm not a huge fan of, but I think it wasn't too bad for me because I never even considered the other guy as being in the running. But it is there.

This is definitely a book that will go on my keeper shelf, and one that I will happily read over and over again.

Tiffany Odekirk did a great job with her first Regency novel. I started reading late one night and stayed up way too long soaking it in. The characters were well developed and I really felt for Hannah. An invitation to spend the summer with family friends seemed like it would give her the happily ever after her heart desired, but things did not go as planned. This was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to more from this author.
