Part I:

As The Two Tails opens, the flock confronts a spiral of death and disappearance. Ensnared by a rapacious raccoon and desperate for a way out, Petunia, the backyard chicken, must throw herself at the mercy of the dark, open road with little more than gumption, a pair of useless wings, and a dubious companion as her guide.
Review:
I was hoping that my kids would enjoy these two books, since the description sounded similar to The Nocturnals, which they love. My 10- year- old started to read Claws, Paws, Feathers and Jaws, but gave up after awhile because he just couldn't get in to it. After reading a few chapters myself, I could understand why. I think these books are meant for children, or maybe middle-grade readers, but the writing comes across as more adultish. The author uses a lot of big words that I just don't think kids will understand. The second book, The Two Tails, was better. The story line was more engaging and easier to get into. By the last 1/4 of the book though, the story was lagging and I found my attention wandering. I think that these could have been very entertaining stories if they weren't so wordy - especially if they're meant to be children's literature. I'll encourage my kids to read the second book and see if they like it better than the first one.
