Blog Tour: The Rent Collector by Camron Wright

The Rent Collector by Camron Wright
Now Available in Paperback

Book Description:

Survival for Ki Lim and Sang Ly is a daily battle at Stung Meanchey, the largest municipal waste dump in all of Cambodia. They make their living scavenging recyclables from the trash. Life would be hard enough without the worry for their chronically ill child, Nisay, and the added expense of medicines that are not working. Just when things seem worst, Sang Ly learns a secret about the ill-tempered rent collector who comes demanding money--a secret that sets in motion a tide that will change the life of everyone it sweeps past. The Rent Collector is a story of hope, of one woman’s journey to save her son and another woman’s chance at redemption. It demonstrates that even in a dump in Cambodia--perhaps especially in a dump in Cambodia--everyone deserves a second chance.

Review:

The Rent Collector is an enlightening and inspiring read! If you are needing something to help you get in a thankful frame of mind this holiday season, you should read this book. Realizing that people actually live in a dump, and have to survive off the garbage of others really helps you count your blessings!

I am all for ups and downs in the books I read, but I definitely need to have a feeling of hope when the downs are outweighing the ups. The Rent Collector really delivers with this idea of hope. The Stung Meanchey way of life is heartbreaking, but I loved the focus on not giving up. And improving one's self.

Knowing that The Rent Collector is based on real people makes it all the more touching. There are a few swear words, and the people of Stung Meanchey live in very harsh and violent conditions, but the positives of this story outweighed the negatives, and I'm really glad I read it.
