Blog Tour: Written on Our Hearts by Emily Freeman

Written on Our Hearts by Emily Freeman
Book description:
If you have ever found the Old Testament intimidating, you're not alone. The less-familiar history, themes, and language, coupled with the length of the book, make it a difficult read for many. But author Emily Freeman loves the Old Testament, and as she shares some of the wonderful things she has learned in her study of this book of scripture, you will find yourself coming to love it too.
Written on Our Hearts is not a commentary or an intensive doctrinal study. Instead, Emily writes about the stories of the Old Testament, stories of trusting and overcoming and enduring and believing. Within these stories are all kinds of applications for the challenges we face today.
"There will come a moment in your life," the author says, "when you or someone you love will struggle with a challenge so great you will wonder how you will make it through. In that moment you will long to better understand the Savior's role as the Deliverer, and to do that you must go to the book of scripture that describes that role the best—the Old Testament."
Discover the delivering power of the Lord yourself in the pages of this book—and experience the scriptures in a new, more personal way!
Review:

A few years ago I decided to read the Old Testament. I had studied it in a seminary class and Sunday school classes, but reading from cover to cover seemed like a good goal. I started out pretty well, but things started getting . . . well, really weird. There is some crazy stuff in the Old Testament! Not to mention some really confusing parts. I'm not proud of it, but I gave up.

When I heard about Written on Our Hearts I thought it would be a great way to finish what I started. I was thinking it would be more like a study guide, but it contains insights Emily has had from her own study. Even though I thought it would be different, I appreciated this more than a study guide. It's not the type of book I'd sit down and read cover to cover, but it is well written, and really makes a reader think. Seeing how Emily "likens the scriptures unto" herself is inspiring (especially with difficult books of scripture).

I really like how each thought is covered in a few pages. This is a great book for when you just have a few minutes and are looking for a spiritual thought or inspiration.
