Torment
Torment by Lauren Kate
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I'm a little torn on the rating for this one, but I'll round up to 4 stars.
I was thrown by the HUGE wings that these angels apparently have. It was very hard to visualize, especially because when I think of angels, they do not have wings.
I liked the chance Luce had in this book to explore other options.
As far as the romance part went, Miles seemed like a much better option for her. It was a whole Jacob/Edward situation. Luce is passionately in love with Daniel, but he keeps her in the dark about many important things. And, then there's the immortal issue as well. Miles is open and honest with her. He's a very good friend, and she could have a real life with him.
Anyway, it will be nice to read the next book when it comes out to see what Luce decides to do. Although, she'll probably go for Edward, I mean Daniel, just because he's very good looking and they have their weird history together (even though Luce can't remember it).

Blackberry Crumble
Blackberry Crumble by Josi S. Kilpack
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another enjoyable Culinary Mystery by Josi Kilpack. I love Sadie's character, although I was cringing several times throughout the book while she was doing "surveillance".

Fallen
Fallen by Lauren Kate
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I keep reading stories that I don't realize are part of a series until the end of the book? So, if you decide to read this one, keep that in mind.
Luce is sent to a reform school due to the mysterious death of a guy she was with. She feels like she knows one of the students, Daniel Grigory, but doesn't know why. The story deals with figuring out that connection.

Linger
Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Pretty enjoyable sequel to "Shiver". I'm not sure how I feel about Cole, although I did like him more by the end of the book than I did at the beginning or middle. Looking forward to finding out how everything turns out when the final book in the series is released.

My Not So Fairy Tale Life
My Not-So-Fairy-Tale Life by Julie Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a pretty sad story in many ways (definitely a tearjerker), but it had enough positive parts to make it enjoyable and not overly depressing. It was a good reminder that the way we treat our children (and other family members) is so important.

Tempest Tossed
Tempest Tossed: A Career and Marriage Hang in the Balance of a Challenging Secret by Josi S. Kilpack
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This novel deals with prescription (and other) drug abuse and addiction. It reminded me in many ways of the documentary "Happy Valley". The story opens with the main character about to commit suicide via overdosing, and then it takes quite awhile to get back to that point. Overall, it was an enjoyable story, with just a few parts that were slow.

A Red Herring Without Mustard
A Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
"A Red Herring Without Mustard" is an enjoyable mystery that takes off from the get-go. It's almost painful to read about the relationship between Flavia and her sisters, and even to some extent, her father. I'm so sad for her at times. The flow of emotions throughout the story is up and down, with interesting characters.
